Delighted to be asked to be a part of the very recent Art Meets Opera evening at the Christchurch Art Gallery with the auction of this large acrylic on canvas painting called '5 o'clock Shadows'. The fundraiser was planned to raised money for The Christchurch Medical Research Fund with this years' focus being The Brain Injury Trust. Pleased that quite a few people wanted to take this painting home. It was from an idea that I suddenly saw on a wall late one afternoon and snapped a photo on my iphone. Inspiration comes at the strangest times and yes the wall was just that intense yellow!
Progress on the peony as it starts to take shape. Really enjoying the muted colours and softness of this one as it takes shape. Just on the first layer so a long way to go yet. Might have to sit on the floor to paint the lower half!
Fun evening at the gallery at the weekend hosting a group of local art lovers from an art collecting club. Along with Paul Smith and Gail Batchelor, two of our Art Box gallery artists who gave talks about their work, we enjoyed bubbles and cheese.
New Zealand is fortunate to have some amazing art galleries around the country and I am super pleased to be represented by Monterey Art Gallery in Howick Auckland in the North Island of New Zealand. They have exhibited and sold my work for a number of years now and it is a gallery with an amazing selection of artists from around the country. Maureen Crombie owns and manages the space with a great team. They go out of their way to help the clients find the right piece. A year or so back I was offered a solo show at Monterey and here is a little image of one of the walls with my art. There were 20 pieces on display and I realize they are all sold now so that's a great feeling. Make sure you go and visit if you are in that area.
Delighted to be part of this group show with Karen Walters and Allan Batt at Kereru Gallery recently. This amazing gallery is brand new and is run by Mike and Karen Walters in Mapua near Nelson. Sold 'Tui Times Two' and also very happy how my large flax piece looked on the wall. This piece is available at the moment and measures 110x100cms. Call me on 03 3528940 and leave a message and I can get you in contact with Karen.
I love to trawl around antique and vintage shops, always on the look out for interesting items to paint. A new shop opened around the corner from the gallery and so I came across this wonderful milk jug. If anyone knows me they would realize that I love Crown Lynn pottery and have rather too much of it to admit to. I always knew this would be a painting one day when I got it and so I have recently set up a simple still life in the studio. The apples have now gone mouldy sitting there so long but today I think I can say I am happy with it and plan to varnish this afternoon. It will probably head over to Little River Gallery as soon as I have photographed it and added it to my catalogue. No name as yet but it measures 50x50cms. Enjoy!
Hot off the easel, this large Pohutukawa painting has just been varnished and is going to be strung today. Love finishing a new piece and feeling 'just right' about it all. Not sure where it's headed at the moment but I might just keep this one at Art Box for a while until I'm ready to let it go. Next job to photograph it and get it posted on the works available page. Now to the next one- love a blank canvas and all the possibilities!
Occasional thoughts from an artist who just loves to paint.
