Thank you for visiting my website. I am based in Christchurch and have my studio at Art Box Gallery where I've been painting professionally since 2004 mainly in watercolours and acrylics. My chosen subjects vary from New Zealand images that have touched my heart to still life studies that leap out from the canvas. For each new painting I draw on my personal bank of sketches, photographs, found objects and collected memories. I only paint places that I have immersed myself in painting from observation, views that can be overlooked by the human eye bringing life and beauty to the simplest objects and scenes.
My practice is one that encompasses small to large-scale artworks in a hyper-realistic style. My brushwork is both expressive and precise, creating an evocative space where nature’s rhythms and movement are felt rather than just observed. Just sitting in nature
absorbing the surroundings with my sketch book, pencils and watercolours - my happy place. My deep love of the Banks Peninsula has evolved during the past thirty years of owning a small country bach in Wainui, where I love to escape with my family and two dogs as often as I can.
I am represented in galleries around New Zealand. I have held a number of solo shows and participated in various group exhibitions, winning the premier award at the Ashburton Society of Arts. My love of nature saw me receive a Forest & Bird Flora & Fauna Award at the ASA and first prize at Artarama. My work is held in private collections in the UK, Europe, USA, Australia & New Zealand. It has been published in the NZ Artists Calendar & also in a Japanese corporate calendar.
“A favourite brush, an old shirt, buttery tubes of paint and some time. My heaven on earth.”
I am represented at these galleries:
Little River Banks Peninsula, Gallery de Novo Dunedin, Flagstaff Gallery Auckland, Art Box Gallery Christchurch.
